The Most Unboring Summer Vacations for Kids

June 4th, 2007

Summer is the time when kids are most likely to tag along for the ride on your holidays around the world. But not all vacations are created equal, even in the Caribbean, especially when it comes to pleasing the little ones. If you want to keep the kids happy this summer, pack your 50 SPF sunblock and take them on these guaranteed-fun activities…

When your kids reach speaking age it’s easier to decipher what they want, but expressing what they don’t like comes along with it too. That goes for vacations as much as fashion choices or food. You can’t just cart them along for the ride anymore. Especially in those summer months when everyone’s enjoying a little time off together, the vacation has to be kid-friendly. Here are some Caribbean activities we recommend to make your next vacation with the kids one to remember, for all the right reasons:

Virgin Islands

Teach them to snorkel in the Virgin Islands
Learning something new is a sure-fire way to rev up the kids and make them forget about the video game they brought. Snorkeling is an activity everyone can do, especially in the calm waters of St. Thomas, St. John and Virgin Gorda (try The Baths beach, above left). We love Baraka Point, a villa with a great snorkeling beach accessible down a short path.

Montego Bay, JamaicaSwim with dolphins in Jamaica
The Dolphin Cove program in Ocho Rios is renowned and one of the Caribbean’s few dolphin encounters that seem natural and not forced. It’s likely the dolphins will have as good a time as your kids. Stay nearby at Villa Paradiso, which even has a games room built for the young ones.

See seaturtles…anywhere!
Turtles are a kid-favorite and, luckily, a ubiquitous resident of the Caribbean islands. To guarantee a turtle sighting, go to Grand Cayman, where they’ve got a full-blown farm with the creatures at all stages of life. Barbados has a swim-with-the-turtles program and Maui is famous for its shell-backed visitors. Sharkpit (friendlier than it sounds) is a great family villa right on the beach in Lahaina.

If you haven’t already, there’s no better time than now to plan your summer vacation. For more information on any of our villas, call us at 1-877-953-7400 or E-Mail

WE would love to be able to rent a villa in Turks on the Grace bay side. We would love a place to house 2 adults and four teenagers. Most of all we want to stay on the beach, with a swimming pool. Are there any good “bargains” for this summer. If the price is reasonable we would love to stay for two weeks….and three if the price fits.. Let me know. we would also consider the bay villas, but first priority is Brace bay.

    We would also consider Aruba.
    Thanks so much!!!!
